Knowledge Workers - How They Think and Work

Although recently Keith has been very involved with case management, this book is not about that. It it is about knowledge workers and how they think and work and what they need ( tools, cases, data, flexibility, no burdensome programmers, and the right management). I found that compelling. I really liked how Keith proved what knowledge workers do best, and how they need Adaptive Case Management and sometimes Production Case Management. Here is one of my favorite quotes: "Case management does not attempt to replace thinking, but rather to provide a platform for thinkers to communicate and take action through."

Keith Swenson and Jim Farris pick up with Tom Davenport ...

Keith Swenson and Jim Farris pick up with Tom Davenport left off with "Thinking for a Living". The latter book (Davenport's) was big on dogma, but short on actionable items. Swenson and Farris really tie together the type of thought leadership Davenport drops with tangible examples, concepts and strategies. You likely do not know that you need case management nor why you do so -- until you read this book. It is not preachy or evangelizing, but articulates how and why supporting knowledge work is the next critical step for business technology, and what that means for case management software.

This is a must read for professionals that have to manage or complete knowledge based work on a daily basis. The book combines the motivation for innovation with the practical implementation examples. Getting from innovation to implementation requires principles, methods and techniques.
