About the Author
Vern Turner is a former industrial engineer who retired as a science and English educator in university and public secondary schools. His writing career has included everything from technical, peer reviewed articles to scientific reports on the business side to writing op-ed columns for two newspapers and several blog sites on politics and social issues. "Racing to the Brink..." is his fourth non-fiction book. Look for a few novels in the coming years. Vern and his spouse live in the beautiful hill country of central Texas and have enjoyed traveling to exotic and interesting places around the world. Those nations include Uganda and Tanzania where Vern climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. More recently, Canada, Great Britain, Ecuador (Galapagos Islands) and China were visited. His spouse is a recognized photographer and captures the essence of each trip brilliantly for the archives. In his spare time away from writing, Vern plays golf, fishes, gardens, landscapes and builds airplane replicas of different vintages.

A Thought Provoking Book

“Racing to the Brink:…” is a marvelous bedside book. A chapter-a-night is certain to expand one’s knowledge base because it deals with reality and is chockablock full of clear thinking and good research. I found that I didn’t read it front to back. Rather, as my mother would say, “I read at it” over a period of weeks. One caveat for the chapter-a-night idea: Each chapter is a think-piece, so falling asleep quickly is not assured.
If I had any Republican friends I would know the perfect gift for them. And, there are way too many Democrats who can’t explain why they are. The book is superb ammunition for them, too.
