Ken Austin rose from humble roots in rural Oregon to build A-Dec, a multi-million dollar international business, guided by a core set of principles and the tireless support of his wife and partner, Joan. A-dec is one of the largest dental equipment makers in the world. In addition to the story of "the A-Dec Way," American Dreamers tells of the Austins' personal adventures and obstacles, including Joan’s conjuring of The Allison—a world-class resort spa—in the middle of Yamhill County, and Ken's battle with alcoholism.
Their personal story gets some professional polish from Tymchuk, head of the Oregon Historical Society, who writes well and knows how to organize the material into an engaging narrative. American Dreamers is a refreshing, inspiring story of overcoming obstacles to find success.

The Austins - Two Kids with a Dream

A wonderful documentation of two people who had attainable visions and followed their dreams. Joan was always there to encourage Ken to pursue his ideas. The book is written as though Ken were right there telling you his story in person. I am privileged to know Ken and the book illustrates Ken's philosophy of treating people as you would want to be treated. In following his ideas, Ken has been fortunate to grow a world class company that has employees that follow his work ethics. In doing so, he has been able to unselfishly give back to the community in many, many ways. Ken is one of the most humble human beings I am aware of. The book reflects this in true fashion. A wonderful read.
