About the Author
I started my career at United Parcel Service, a long time ago. After little more than getting my feet wet in the Logistics industry I moved quickly into manufacturing. This is where I found my passion! Seeing raw materials coming in one end, going through various transformations, and seeing finished goods come out the other end is exciting for me. I have been described as a manufacturing nerd, I get so excited about it. I have been responsible for setting up manufacturing lines that produced things like windows that were installed in Willoughby Tower in Chicago, the ignition switch used in various Honda cars, wiring harnesses used in Toyota and Honda cars, and more. My knowledge of Project Management stems from having run projects like creating the department that manufactured the ignition switches for the Honda Accord and Civic. I had four bare walls, and a looming deadline when I took that one over. Not only did I get the air filters in place, the machinery installed, hired and trained a full staff, and got the line up and running but I also reconfigured the ERP as a side project to reduce manufacturing variances by over 67%. I also set up the line to produce the parts using 42-1/2 less man hours than Honda was using! Coming in under budget and finishing on time is what I do! A good bit of my success also stems from an easy familiarity with computers. I had been the IT Manager for a Japanese owned spring manufacturer for many years. This is where my facility with MRP/ERP configuration comes from.

Excellent Guide for Non-Project Managers and Nice Review for Experienced Project Managers!

This book was written to help anybody who finds themselves in a situation where they may need to propose or manage a project, especially in small to mid-size companies where there may be no formal project management discipline or PMO for support. As a project manager with experience in large organizations, the book was a great review of the basics and provided me with some key insights and reminders of why we should be proposing and executing projects in the first place.
The book is an easy read. It includes practical tips and even some project management jargon to help you get started on your project. The author then provides some insights to help you get started with your Project Charter, Project Scope Statement, and the Project Management Plan.
The three things I liked most about this book were:
1. The tips on how to pick a project that will positively impact and organization.
2. The tips on how to justify your project to your executives.
3. The description of the documents that will give you the best chances to successfully complete your project.
I recommend this book to anyone who needs help getting started with the proposal or execution of a project.
