David Hays is the founder and president of Comprehensive Financial Consultants, Inc. (CFC). CFC was formed to deliver retirement income, tax, and estate planning services to individuals, families, and small businesses. In 2003, Comprehensive Financial Consultants Institutional (CFCI) was formed. CFCI is a SEC-registered investment advisor and gives the individual investor access to the institutional way of investing. David hosts a weekly radio show Your Money with David Hays on 96.1 FM and 1370 AM WGCL. Your Money with David Hays can also be heard online. Along with his coauthor, Douglas Hughes, David has taught retirement planning courses through Indiana University School of Continuing Studies and IVY Tech State College, along with Social Security Claiming Strategies to his community. He has been a guest speaker for a variety of local and national organizations, discussing economic and investment trends. David has assisted with and has been quoted in several newspapers and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal and Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine and is a founding member of the Ed Slott Elite IRA Advisor Group.

Doug Hughes joined the Comprehensive Financial Consultants Team in May 2003 and is a partner and lead consultant with the firm. Doug's primary focus is assisting clients in building their investment portfolio in preparation for retirement. He also enjoys working with nonprofit organizations and local churches. In addition to working with his clients, Doug has been a panelist on several boards educating other financial consultants from across the country. Doug and Dave have a great grip on what can be a complicated topic. They educate the reader in the different disciplines and bring them to an everyday discussion and level. Many of the topics I knew about, some they reminded me of more options, and others were completely new. It is easy to understand and a great reference to go back to in easy to understand English.

Highly Recommended if you want to be more knowledgable in your retirement planning

There is a plethora of examples throughout the book of different retirement scenarios. I like that there are check lists like "the big ten" road blocks to retirement. It also is educational in different insurance policies and estate planning. It gave me ideas to ask my financial advisor, insurance agent and tax accountant. I highly recommend this book.

I have been reading motivational and "self help" books of all kinds for more than 40 years. Some are good and some not so good. I put Dennis Houchin's latest book squarely on top of the good stack. Many of the concepts presented in this book are not new, we may heard them before, but never have I seen them corralled in such a nice neat package. Due to its clear, concise, step by step , no fluff roadmap to accomplishment it earns it's name "The Achievement Protocol". Dennis Houchin has spent 35 years in the Information Technology field. He started his own computer consulting firm in 1994.

In 2010 He was trained in MBTI personality assessments. He utilized these new skills to train managers and employees to develop more productive working relationships.

Dennis has spoken at national industry and security conferences on the subject of Technogeekaphobia, explaining the fundamental reasons behind the natural conflict that exists between business managers and the technical people they work with, and demonstrating methods of improving productivity based on a better understanding the relationships.

Real Experience

As a colleague of the author for 25 years, I have had the benefit of observing his work habits and the beneficial results of his efforts towards the perfection of business processes and results in the business I have nurtured over this same period. Mr. Houchin brings a depth of understanding and a creative enthusiasm for perfection in each area of his focus, be it network creation and administration, commitment to ethical uses of business digital tools or digital security.
After my first read of The Achievement Protocol, I observed the basis for much of what he actually set into motion over the course of his tenure. The charts and lists that covered his workspace wall at our place of business, became to me a visual reference for a process he had refined and made useful to keep projects on track and with better results than might have come from a less organized approach.
As a project manager, I have had many opportunities to engage his services for solutions to the IT component of new business opportunities. I can say that incorporating the Task to Vision spectrum that forms the content of the book, I will better manage those aspects of my future assignments in order to be more confident that without his input, I will still have his formula for achievement. To those that hope to lead project teams, it would be helpful to fully understand the relationship between “seeing the big picture” and breaking it down to bite size tasks.
The book is a quick read that should be revisited again and again as you build your future.

What a fantastic book! This book was written in such a way that not only is the information accessible to any reader, but so is success. The writing gives a clear picture of the conceptual idea of the success tips, while also giving clear steps to follow to get to the success that everyone is meant to achieve. This is a book that you can buy ten copies of and give them out to friends and family as gifts. It's that good, because they'll thank you kindly when you give it to them and again later (ten-fold.) Definite thumbs-up for a new outlook on "self-help" when you thought it's all been said and done before, and for the detailed description and motivation to lead you down your path towards your vision. Bravo!

I found the personal touches the author added made the book more "real" and an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a clear and concise way to set your direction and march toward it.

Definitely with the time and money I spent!

At first I was skeptical of the name "New Zero Order". It reminded me of Physics, a subject I dreaded in high school. But I can boldly say it was worth reading! The author condensed some unorthodox and practical wisdom into less than 70 pages. The presentation of thinking habits as demonstrated by Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, etc., makes this book an interesting and insightful read. I enjoyed how the author backed his models with explicit examples of successful people we know and can verify. The 9 laws will either make you uncomfortable or catapult you great success.

Great book and great price for less than 70 pages!

There's no doubt that if you're planning to start your own business, you need to plan. And if you're a newbie and need some advice and guiding steps, then this book is a good place to start. I'm using it to bring my online business to the next level of profitability and some of the "tip and tricks" detailed by Daniel are worth taking into consideration. Good luck everyone!

This was a quick and insightful read for me. The New Zero Order outlines very interesting thought paradigms to steer the individual into a perspective in which only bold/outrageous things can be done, even with ease. The author's zero-level thinking technique and ZOAM model are immensely effective for this day and age. I highly recommend this!

General Manager's Guide to Financial Management

The heart and soul of this book is the financial side of business and I found the chapters and the Appendix materials to be excellent. The author does a wonderful job of explaining the statements, their preparation and interpretation. The case example does a great job of tying the materials together as one works thru the various statements and their analyses. This would be the ideal reference for many business leaders and it could be a life-saver for individuals who suddenly become CEO or president and for the first time must understand and direct the financial side of an enterprise: think of the son or daughter who inherits the leadership of a family firm without much experience or the line executive who becomes a business unit head with little previous exposure to financial matters.
Chapters 4-15 are a wonderful and concise explanation of what every general manager must know and understand about how to run a business successfully with the numbers. The opening chapters on "Leadership Traits" and "Keys to Perpetual Profitability" are a big bonus. Those insights only comes from experience and the author has captured what every business leader should know and should be doing.

What separates this book from others I’ve read (and written) is that the autor shows the reader how to use these statements to manage. There is as at least as much leadership and general management here as there is accounting. The chapter on Capital budgeting explains the calculations for CAPEX but also reccomends minimum returns - and why. You won’t find that in any other book.

Valuable Resource for Business Owners - A Must Read!

Lead to Succeed is an excellent single-source book! Much of what the author writes about can be found in other books, but it will take numerous books to cover what he teaches. Even so, who has the time? The author has an amazing talent for being succinct: he gets to the point, make his point in an easy to understand manner, and simplifies hard-to-understand concepts. He also takes numerous concepts and brings them together in a complete insightful package where I found myself saying many times, “Wow, that really makes a lot of sense” or “That is valuable!” The author states, “Financial management does not have to be either mysterious or complicated, but you need to know where to begin and take it on a step-by-step basis. You must be able to make sense out of the multitude of numbers and mysterious jargon that accountants and other financial people throw at you.” As a financial professional (MBA & CPA), and a two-location business owner for over 20 years, I’ll say that Lead to Succeed is an excellent easy-to-read and succinct resource for the non-financial business owner, as well as the financial professional. This book is a valuable resource and is a must read for anyone running a business!

I highly recommend this book to ANY entrepreneur who either 1) thinks he/she knows everything, or 2) knows he/she doesn't know everything but is afraid to ask, or 3) knows that learning is a never-ending process.

Dave Duryee knows how to talk business in a way that makes sense - and can improve your bottom line. I literally found it hard to put this book down since I found it easy to read, easy to understand and, most importantly, easy to implement in my own company. And now I can take the concepts I've learned and teach them to my employees.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book - it truly is worth the investment.

Great Content. Overpriced, though.

I wanted an easy-to-understand update/summary of the Kirkpatrick levels of evalution, and this "TD at Work" publication was perfect. I'd forgotten how short these publications are... ATD is making a killing for what they charge considering it's only 14 pages of content.

The publication includes diagrams, examples, and well-written explanations. It even includes mini-quizzes at the end if you were to do a presentation and wanted to assess understanding/learning.

An Informative and Easy-to-Read Book on Preparing for the Scariest Part of the Job Search Process: The Interview

Before I retired three years ago I had purchased for my libraries many hundreds of books intended to help candidates prepare for the always-competitive jobs market.

Although often written by human resource experts and prepared in a highly professional manner, most of these books were, unfortunately, too academic for many of my readers and/or not sufficiently comprehensive. In a word many were boring. This book is highly interesting (even entertaining), concise, and covers all preparation leading up to the all-important interview, the interview itself and the post-interview period.

Wow, what an awesome and truly inspiring book. The topics in the book are so relevant in today's competitive job market. I have a college education and have always felt that I interviewed well. After reading this book, I now realize that I have failed at truly presenting myself and my true strengths. This might explain the jobs and promotions I didn't get! Wish I had read this book sooner!

I will definitely be purchasing several more copies to give as gifts to upcoming graduates.

This book has helped me tremendously in my job search. It was very informative, and helped me think of the interview process in a new way. It covered all the important bases, and even gave examples of how to answer some of an interviews tougher questions. I recommend anyone in the job market read this book before your next interview. Hopefully it will help guide you to the success it has for me.

An excellent resource I plan to keep in my bag of tricks for many years

A great resource! I have used the first edition of this guide for several years. I was eager to buy this updated version to gain access to more exercises I could use in the leadership development work I do with high school students. The concepts give me a strong framework in my work with these students. This book includes a wide variety of exercises. Some of them I use exactly as designed, and others I modified for my use with younger students. I would highly recommend this as a resource for anyone doing leadership development work with teenagers and young adults.

Taking Advantage of Fed Interest Rate Moves

An excellent assessment of how Fed actions impact stock prices and how to take advantage of Fed interest rate trends. The book ends with a fairly easy approach to equity investing that delivers an amazing return premium of 8.8%/year.

Their approach breaks the Fed interest rate changes into Expansive, Indeterminate and Restrictive situations depending on the direction of changes to the Federal Funds Rate and the Fed Discount Rate. Various investment strategies are presented for each of these situations (Value versus Growth, Real Estate, Commodities, Sector Rotation, International, and Fixed-Income among others) with some being highly successful and others not. Their work is summarized with a Rotation Strategy (each consisting of five asset classes) that provides above average results for each of the three Fed interest rate change situations.

While the book is fairly helpful in how to use their learning, the one glaring omission is lack of a table showing Fed interest rate changes and the Expansive, Indeterminate, and Restrictive situations they map into. It would be helpful to the reader to see exactly how they determined these periods in order for the reader to correctly identify the Fed stance moving forward.

There is much to recommend their approach given the Fed’s influence on the U.S. economy. However, to the extent the future differs from the past, the specific strategies suggested may not provide extra return. For example, part of the investment rotation approach involves investing in energy stocks. Energy prices (and oil company valuations) rose nicely for decades under OPECs dominance of oil prices. Will US fracking (and increased fracking worldwide) reverse this trend? Another part of the rotation involves investment in Emerging Markets. China’s rapid growth has contributed strongly to Emerging Markets results. Will the maturing of China’s economy lessen Emerging Markets future returns?

GREAT READ - RECOMMEND

The authors address a key influence in today's financial markets- the impact of the Fed and policy positions on investment portfolio performance. This book provides a well presented guide for investing in markets that are increasingly influenced by Fed activity and offer strategy recommendations based on Fed policy shifts. A must read for all serious investors.

A Welcomed Addition to Portfolio Managment Literature

First, the writing style is easy to read and it flows well. Second, it is very obvious to me that Bob Johnson and his colleagues did an amazing amount of research to back up various statements and themes with facts and examples. Third, all of the suggestions and points are backed up with great logic that make a lot of sense to me. Fourth, the book should have multiple audiences. I think every portfolio manager would need it as a first read and then as a reference book on his or her shelf. They should refer to it periodically as they may be changing their own investment styles from time to time. Finally, maybe the policy makers at the FED should be made aware of the many findings as they may not be aware of the many linkages Johnson, et al have discovered. Aside from these points, as an academic myself, the book serves as a quick refresher on many classic Finance fronts. For example, it brings in the efficient market hypothesis and the various aspects of the methods for measuring risk at many key places. A minor point is, on the Kindle, the bar diagrams and summary tables seem a bit too small to really read.
