Este libro ha sido concebido para ayudarte a alcanzar resultados exitosos en tus negociaciones personales y en tus transacciones comerciales. Es único desde dos perspectivas: por un lado, no sólo cubre conceptos de negociación, sino que también proporciona acciones prácticas a seguir en futuras negociaciones, incluyendo una lista de chequeo para la planificación de la negociación y un ejemplo práctico de esa lista de chequeo completa.

También incorpora: (1) una herramienta de evaluación de tu estilo personal; (2) ejemplos de “árboles de decisión”, útiles para calcular tus alternativas en caso de frustración de la negociación; (3) una estrategia de tres etapas para incrementar tu poder durante la negociación: (4) un plan práctico para analizar tus negociaciones en consideración a distintas variables, entre ellas tu precio de reserva y zona de probable acuerdo, entre otros; (5) lineamientos claros en estándares éticos aplicables a la negociación; (6) factores a considerar al decidir si deberías negociar a través de un agente; (7) herramientas psicológicas que puedes utilizar, y modos para eludirlas si las plantea la otra parte; (8) elementos esenciales del Derecho Contractual; y (9) una lista de chequeo de factores a utilizar cuando evaluas tu desempeño como negociador.

En segundo término, el libro es único en cuando propone un enfoque global y general para todo el proceso de la negociación. Otras obras se focalizan sea en la negociación, o bien en el Derecho Contractual, concentrándose en este último caso, en cuestiones y requisitos específicos desde el punto de vista legal para que un contrato sea válido, sin considerar otros aspectos.

About the Author

George Siedel es profesor de administración de negocios de la “Williamson Family” y profesor “Thurnau” de Derecho Empresarial en la Universidad de Michigan. Enseña negociación en el programa MBA de la escuela de negocios de Michigan’s Ross y en seminarios internacionales dictados a líderes empresarsiales, emprendedores, abogados, médicos, directores deportivos y jueces.

Illustrates How and Why Developmental Capacity Matters in the Working World

This text builds on Jennifer Berger's "Changing on the Job," which outlines the different ways in which one can make meaning (i.e., one's developmental capacity). This new text also does that, but goes one step further by showcasing through storytelling what it looks like, in practical work settings, to hold a self-transforming way of making meaning. Since operating from this capacity is a little foreign to me at this stage in my life, I really appreciated seeing how it could play out. As I continue on my journey as a scholar and practitioner in student affairs/higher education, I anticipate on returning to this text as well as "Changing on the Job." In fact, I see myself utilizing both texts in potential future classes I teach in student affairs/higher education.

An easy to read journey into leading in worlds where everything changes constantly and the way forward is not clear. Garvey Berger and Johnston understand complexity and have practical suggestions for leading through uncertainty even when the stakes are high.

Great example of how to convey complex theory by telling a compelling story!

I loved the way the authors have succeeded in finding a form which combines the ongoing telling of a story (based on real practice experience I presume), with introduction/reflection on theory, models, simple practice habits etc. It made the book very engaging both emotionally and intellectually. It was quite a treat to see that work so well, especially since in my own PhD I have myself been experimenting with this idea of an alternative form and exploring ways to combine a compelling narrative with analytical reflections/discussions – so I was very happy to see an example of that really working out well.

I believe this book offers great support for promoting the ideas of adult development and a complexity approach to leadership.

Mind set for success

Having read this gave me the proper mind set. My favorite among what I read is that successful people go the extra mile, or doing beyond what is expected. Of course that's just my favorite. For everything else, I'd like to think it all helped give me a clearer vision and mind to set myself to becoming successful. I recommend this book.

I have read lots of books on success and self-improvement, but this is one of the best.
At the beginning Penelope asks the question "what makes successful people different ?"
As she rightly states it is not just about wealth as people like Mother Teresa and Ghandi were hugely successful and influential without being wealthy. Many people think it is about education, but that myth is quickly refuted as you may be surprised to know that Albert Einstein failed his University exams and never tried again.

In Chapter 2 you learn why successful people are different and it contains one nugget about Thomas Edison, which if you learn what he did will lead you down the road of success.

There is everything you need in this book to help you succeed and if you ever think about giving up just think about Edison

Wanting to become successful and having the enough resource is not enough.. Thinking like a successful person completes the equation.
I've always wanted to get my hands on a book like this. The content is so rich and satisfying that it clearly opened my mind to all the opportunities I've missed in the past years..

So far everything laid in this book makes perfect sense for choosing the right path necessary to gain happiness and success!

About the Author
Robert Walsh is a leadership and team development consultant. His primary areas of concentration are leadership education and training, organizational assessment and development, executive development, 1-on-1 leadership coaching, and curriculum development services. He is the author of several leadership and organizational development assessment instruments and the book, Be a Better Boss! Robert served in U.S. Navy for 23-years as a submarine nuclear propulsion plant supervisor, leadership instructor, and on the staff of the Commander Submarine Force Pacific. He retired from the Navy in 1995 as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9). While on active duty in the Navy, Robert earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from NY Regents College in 1993, and his MBA in Human Resources Management in 1994 from Chaminade University of Honolulu.

I have to say this book is for everyone!
You can call it Be a Better Boss, Partner, Parent, Teacher, Person on and on!
It is also a reference book that can be used over and over and over forever! Very well written, conversational ( a personal preference) and easy to read and relate to!
There is no better authority than experience. This book has everything needed for self-evaluation,with suggestions for adjustments needed. This book covers every aspect of being a boss with advice that is solid and proven. You can refer to it often in order to continue to improve and hone your skills. I think it should be required reading for anyone in a supervisory position!

Great guide for company/business leaders

I'm not yet a supervisor or manager but I'm working my way to there, and the insights offered in this book definitely prepares me for what I need when I get there in terms of handling my subordinates. On an employee's perspective, this also gives me understanding as to how a good leader would think and behave. This even made me tell what a good leader is. Definitely a good resource in improving human relation at work.

Very Good

This is a book that does a great job at illuminating what is it that brought Yahoo from the brink and how we can learn from it. I liked to look into Yahoo’s past and the research is very well done overall. I found myself learning a number of useful lessons from the Yahoo’s comeback. Highly recommended.

I enjoy these business history books but I don't necessarily want to read a whole full-length book, so I really enjoy these shorter volumes. I'd heard of Marissa Mayer but didn't really know anything about her or what, specifically, she did for Yahoo and this helped fill in the blanks quite quickly.
