I think this book is great for someone who has a sales team that they want to train in the art of selling. Here are some of the points I think are really on point in this book: 1. Look Sharp Be Sharp (making sure you, or your staff, is properly dressed is often over looked) I know it may seem silly, and not worth saying, but I'm glad Eric touches on this point, because I have seen a significant and direct increase in sales from just this ONE thing. 2. I really like his Killer Be's - Be Proud. Be Positive. Be Passionate, and Be Caring. (again, I think these are great suggestions for all sales people, regardless of what they are 'selling.' 3. I chapter six (or so) Eric explains that there is one reason people buy: THEIR REASONS. Again, I couldn't agree more. To people are too focused on that THEY want, versus their prospect. Finding out what they want and why is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW. 5. I also LOVE that Eric makes the point that you MUST GET A COMMITMENT from your prospect. And, to not overwhelm them with too many options. Narrow it down, give your recommendation, and let them choose between 2 options that you think are best for them. Well done Eric. The Art Of Selling Memberships captivated my interest immediately. I read it in one sitting and have a stack of notes. The Step By Step Process and the some of the hidden GEMS I found were priceless. Many people have a tendency to negate and overlook the simple as ineffective. I owned my very successful Gym and sold memberships for 19 years. There were a couple of things that seem so simple, yet I know if I'd known them, my success would have soared through the roof. I only wish I'd had this book and the simplistic keys back when I started. The information would have been invaluable! What I most liked about this book was that it was "Principle Based". This made it easy to read, understand and use. It was simple and comprehensive. I don't own a Gym any more, now I'm a contract educator, I travel and train people in the US and Internationally, and I have already started developing a strategic direction to obtaining more contracts after reading and assimilating the approach in Erik Charles Russell's book. Sales training gold...Do, Be, Do, Be, Do!

As someone that has successfully sold things for most of my life I was wondering if I could learn anything new when a friend gifted it to me on Amazon Kindle. I think that selling gym memberships though has to be one of the hardest sales job 9 months out of the year and that is what originally peaked my interest.

Erik does a good job of hooking the reader with his “the easiest sale that I never closed” story in the introduction. I also liked that he offers bonuses to the reader to improve the overall experience.

His comparison of buying jewelry to buying a gym membership seemed like a stretch in the beginning, but he pulled it off in the end. His point about dressing for success is something I have always believed to be an important part of being successful salesperson.

My favorite quote from the book was, “When people come to you for help they expect to be led to a solution by a leader not a loser.”

Even though I do not sell gym memberships I walked away with some great sales tips that I plan on incorporating into my business. My favorite tip was when Erik said, “take time to process what your prospect says…you do not need to fill all the silence in the conversation.”

If you sell anything at all, I recommend that you pick up a copy of this book, I'm sure you'll find a few gems inside like I did.

I find this book very informative if you are looking ...

I find this book very informative if you are looking for what truly motivates people to buy memberships, or to make life changes in general. If you are looking to help your gym (or any business, really) RETAIN members while also gaining new members (which is a must if you want your venture to succeed long-term) then you need to give this book a read. I think the reason so many gyms fail is because people assume that their customers will just walk in and hand out their money. This just isn't the case- you must be a confident salesperson, and this book will help you with that. It goes deeper than the normal step by step sales manual, and has staying power that others can't match.

This book will help anyone looking to assist others in making positive life changes, not just gym owners or personal trainers- honestly, anyone in the business of motivating and helping others could benefit from reading this book. But of course, if you own a gym or are opening any type of fitness or health facility, then you need to get your hands on it ASAP!
