Effectiveness in today's workplace relies on how well people can pool their talents, resources, and knowledge to achieve results. It is their daily interactions that determine the ultimate success of a strategy or how well it is executed. Data from the authors demonstrate there is a big gap between what people and groups actually achieve and what they could achieve if they could interact more effectively. This book discusses how to close these interaction gaps.
Unfortunately, most interventions aimed at improving teamwork or collaboration have a superficial impact at best. In this book, Max Isaac and Anton McBurnie explain the four fatal flaws that doom such efforts, including the failure to account for the emotional component of interaction and the over-reliance on classroom training to solve real world problems.
A longer-lasting solution is based on an integration of what the authors label as fun, mundane, and tricky approaches. The fun work allows people and groups to understand what strengths they have to work with and what weaknesses they have to manage (not overcome). The mundane work helps them eliminate the enormous waste associated with poor meetings and misunderstandings. The tricky approaches teach them how to benefit from differences rather than get sidetracked into unproductive conflict.
Learning to close interaction gaps is like greasing the cogs in a gear: it makes the whole assembly run smoothly. You'll see improvements in everything from communication and decisions to alignment and group dynamics.

Review
There are many books about strategy and performance management but few that connect these with the fundamentals of interaction. Close the Interaction Gap is a practical guide for becoming a high-performing team that can work at all levels of the organization. --Jonathan Becher, Chief Digital Officer, SAP
I can recommend the book Close the Interaction Gap for any leader in the high-tech industry. From personal experience, I can tell you the ideas and methods shared in the book work. Not only do they make you a more effective leader, but if rolled out to the entire organization, development projects run faster and smoother and it improves your overall profitability. --Michael Ritter, President & CEO, NovAtel
It used to be said that 90% of strategy is execution. In today s fast-moving, complex organizations, 90% of execution is interaction. Getting your team pulling in the same direction at the same time is the corporate challenge of the age. Max Isaac and Anton McBurnie are masters at helping organizations identify and close the interaction gaps, applying their real-world experience to knit strategy and implementation together. I've applied their methods. They work. --Edward Greenspon, Former Editor-in-Chief, The Globe and Mail

Essential for executives and team leaders looking for a competitive advantage through their teams
By Lee Brady
This book captures the essence of concepts Mr. McBurnie and Mr. Isaac shared with our productivity teams nearly a decade ago. The book offers fresh insights to their data-based approach to improve what are traditionally termed "soft-skills" and demystifies the process. The pair offers hard, game-changing tactics to increase the results from any team whether targeting the board room or individual projects. The material and approach engages leaders and team members on a personal level raising their self-awareness and applying those new insights to unlock powerful team interactions.
The materials provide insights into diversity and inclusion among team members many leaders do not realize exist. McBurnie and Isaac provide tools to sequence the team interaction improvement journey and a common language to foster healthier discussions. Start with the book, then engage 3 Circle Partners directly to accelerate your organization's results. The book is not a replacement for the value they provide in a direct engagement. They shifted a portion of our Fortune 50 organization from focusing solely on data to changing the personal and team behaviors obstructing benefit realization. Their approach to share the tactics will accelerate your organization's performance no matter the size or scale.
