This little book is an important and exciting contribution to any organization or leadership team genuinely committed to understanding its culture and growing its potential for innovation. The authors recognize that cultural transformation is a complex undertaking and one that does not lend itself to prescriptive solutions or predetermined formulas for success. Instead, they have provided a practical, data driven tool that enables an organization to assess and understand its culture through the lens of innovation. Their assessment tool supports the process of discovery and dialogue that any team or group would need to undertake as the first step on the journey. You have to know where you are before you build the road map to where you want to go.
It should also be noted that the authors have made their work freely available and invite collaboration and conversation going forward. Readers and users will contribute to and benefit from future versions of the assessment tool that are likely to emerge from this collaboration.
Growing innovation potential is hard work. For any team or group seriously committed to doing so, this is a great book. It is likely to frustrate anyone looking for easy answers or prescriptive solutions.

A brief, pragmatic guide to gauge your organization's innovation capacity

The Rainforest Scorecard is a not so gentle reminder that innovation is intentional, cultural, and structural. Consistent innovation is born of an organization designed and operated to reinvent itself and its products and not just the result of a single great idea. As an entrepreneur, I appreciate the brevity and the utility of the Rainforest Scorecard. It is designed for the practitioner that needs to stand in front of the mirror and evaluate an organization’s capacity to innovate. The scorecard is thorough in its approach to assessing organization assets and human resources.
However, it does not try to give the reader a conceptual foundation or basic level of education on organizational concepts. It expects the reader to have the motivation and understanding to be able to view an organization, particularly his or her own organization, through an impartial and critical lens. If you want a tool to evaluate your organization’s capacity to innovate for the purpose of facilitating a real dialogue within your organization, I highly recommend the Rainforest Scorecard. I will be applying it to my own.

Pursuing an Innovation Culture? The Rainforest Scorecard is a good beginning.
So far, the 21st Century owns much to innovation. Individuals, companies, municipalities and even countries are in hot pursuit of innovation to win the day. How do individuals and groups succeed to create a culture of innovation (Silicon Valley, Tel Aviv) and why do others fail?
The Rainforest Scorecard interrogates the often overlooked elements of thriving innovation centers (The Rainforest), and compels the reader to contemplate and consider current state, first. My favorite two questions in the short form scorecard - Who are the organization's leaders? (List as many as you can) and more, Why are they leaders? (Be specific).
Have you ever done this before? How profound!
My guess is that the mere process of proceeding with a rigorous interrogation with this Scorecard will help us all discover for ourselves, finally, that the soft things seldom considered are - in The Rainforest,- the hard things!
