Learn from the most creative people!

Reading this book inspired me. There were many lessons I have learned from the most creative people in the world. I was inspired with the ideas that stemmed from simply looking at what a community needs and what will it make better (just like what Vikram Vora, CEO and founder of MyDentist and Roger Norris Gordon, CEO and Founder of Food Cowboy did). Oftentimes, we do not realize the daily needs of the community that have to be addressed. Many inventions have come to life because some people were keen to observe the little things that people need, which will make life easier, if addressed. Aside from the different lessons presented after the story of each creative person, the book has summarized these lessons at the end which makes the reading more fun and for easier reference. This book has reminded me that I can be anything. I can dream of anything but that also means I have to work hard for it, or else, I will not achieve my goals.

It is true what they say that success leaves clues and success people can be modeled and learned from. I found this book to be interesting and filled with lots of real life examples of people with great minds changing industries. I particularly enjoyed the list of 25 tips listed at the end. I even took some notes on them to try to apply them in my own life. Really well done book with great info and ideas...

Steve Jobs top life lessons.

In this book, we find..

- How Steve had a world of His own

- Who were His original parents

- What where the prime motivators in Steve's life

- How He had almost neglected a family and when and why He reconnected.

- When the business and enterprise come to existence and how it shifted from a base to a right partner

- A few strategies of the legend and how he really bent the total IT structure.

We have heard this legend's name much but know the icon of apple in a more interesting and attesting way than any its maker's name.

That itself is a great achievement.

The author gives a lot of good subject and insight in the life of Steve Jobs and also makes us understand to a decent level about the icon's life and his strategies or rather style of operation.

In this book, we find much information in the hard times of Jobs and how he overcame it or how he really really swam through much hardship.

For a reader who would come here expecting practical insights, there are fairly good amount of take home material available.

My suggestion would be that a little more of description could have beautified the product making it lovable.

Great and captivating read

I read the Journal in one go- its filled with inspiration on how to use embodiment in so many fields: personal relationships in dealing with your partner, personal relationship with yourself when dealing with creativity blocks and stagnation, professional relationships at work and life processes where confidence and leadership need to be cultivated. I really enjoyed that articles are centering around personal work and life examples of the authors- letting me see how I can apply principles and practice of embodiment in my every day life and relations with people and myself. I am already waiting for the Volume 2 as it is a great way to keep myself updated about the work of others in the embodiment field.

This book is AMAZING! After i went to college i was $90,000 in debt the collectors were after me like crazy! I tried 3 other book and they all sucked..I was at my wits end. My friend told me about this book and i was really skeptical but she forced me to read it...BOY I AM HAPPY THAT I DID!! . I learned things about money finance that i never knew before. I am so glad i picked up this book!!!

This book didn't contain any information that I haven't read other places. It's good advice. It's just stale advice. Pay off the credit card with the lowest limit and then take that money and pay off the next one. Nothing revolutionary about that. I'm glad I didn't pay for this.

About the Author
Dr. Jack Kapoor is a Professor of Business and Economics in the Business and Services Division. Dr. Kapoor has taught Business and Economics at College of DuPage since 1969. He received his B.A. and M.S. from San Francisco State College and his Ed.D. from Northern Illinois University. Professor Kapoor was recently awarded the Business and Services Division's Outstanding Professor Award for 1999-2000. Dr. Kapoor is known internationally as a co-author of several textbooks including Business: A Practical Approach (Rand McNally), Business (Houghton Mifflin), and Focus on Personal Finance (Richard D. Irwin/McGraw-Hill).

Professor of business at Dallas County Community Colleges, believes that these two words can literally change people's lives. Whether you want to be rich or just manage the money you have, the ability to analyze financial decisions and gather financial information are skills that can always be improved. In addition to writing several textbooks, Dr. Hughes has taught personal finance, introduction to business, business math, small business management, small business finance, and accounting since 1972. He also served as a content consultant for two popular national television series, It's Strictly Business and Dollars & Sense: Personal Finance for the 21st Century, and is the lead author for a business math project utilizing computer-assisted instruction funded by the ALEKS Corporation. He received his BBA from Southern Nazarene University and his MBA and EdD from the University of North Texas. His hobbies include writing, investing, collecting French antiques, art, and travel.

Les Dlabay teaches in the Department of Economics and Business at Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Illinois. Over the past 25 years, he has taught more than 30 different courses in high school, community college, university, adult education, and teacher preparation programs. Dr. Dlabay has developed a wide variety of textbook materials, student activity guides, instructor manuals, testing programs, audio-visual materials, and software packages in the areas of Personal Finance, Consumer Economics, and International Business. Dr. Dlabay has served as a consultant to corporations, educational institutions, and government agencies. Mickey brings to bear his deep experience as a leader to impart practical, useful information for leaders at all levels. His "five brick" model of integrity, respect, leadership, teamwork, and attention to detail is easy to understand. He backs it all up with stories from his own experience. I especially like "Mickey's Rules" a series of 11 pithy statement on leadership. Good stuff here!

About the Author
Brandon Christopher is an artist, novelist and journalist. He has published over a dozen short stories and essays in magazines, literary journals, websites and anthologies. He also published his first book, Dirty Little Altar Boy, through Ghost Pants Press. He is also a writer and producer of several documentaries and TV biographies, including: Just for the Record -- The Rolling Stones, the highly acclaimed 16-hour documentary The Definitive Elvis, and The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made.

Take this job and...

"To see me in your office is surely cause for speculation. I look like you, I work like you, but I am not like you, and some part of you knows this. Some elemental part of you, deep down inside, knows that I am an imposter in your workplace. But your—actually, our—employer doesn't know this yet—he doesn't realize the person he just gave a unique login and password to is a professional at what he does for a living. But this particular profession isn't what he does for a living—at least it wasn't three days before the interview."

So begins Brandon Christopher's chronicle of the 81(!) jobs he held since graduating from high school—some lasted a few minutes, some a few hours, some a few days, some even a few months. While some of the jobs he had were exciting in their own right, some strictly called for menial labor, some required dealing with customers and even cash registers, and some were just downright gross.

Many of us have started jobs only to realize they're utterly and completely wrong for us, or the boss is a total douchebag, or what is required is far more taxing (physically or emotionally) than we imagined, and we've dreamed of just walking off the job in a blaze of glory, telling the boss what they can do with the job, or even, in the most passive-aggressive fashion ever, simply not returning the next day or after a lunch break. But many of us don't do that. However, Brandon Christopher did—more than once, sometimes in spectacular fashion.

From his experience as a not-entirely-skilled limousine driver hired to drive Wu-Tang Clan, to finding himself in the middle of a tug-of-war between coworkers (and a little sexual harassment) while working as a proofreader and writer for a series of gay porn magazines, from the physically and emotionally harrowing experiences as a mortuary driver and a member of a moving crew, to the disgusting (not to mention ethically challenging) work as a plumber's assistant, The Job Pirate is at times hysterically funny, and at times moving, as Christopher struggles with whether this path he has found himself on is the right one for his future.

I enjoyed this book and at times, certainly found myself nodding along with some of his observations (not to mention muffling my laughter so I didn't laugh out loud on the train). It is a little scattered, in that he jumps through different periods of time, so I found myself needing to re-acclimate myself occasionally to which jobs he had before the one he was discussing. And at times, he shifts away from his job anecdotes to share other reflections and incidents (including a BB gun battle he had with a friend, or an attempt to find a willing participant for a threesome with him and his coworker), and those aren't as interesting as his experiences working.

The Job Pirate is at times a cautionary tale not to do the things Christopher has done, but it's fun to read about someone doing some of the things at jobs you might have thought of once or twice (or maybe more). Lots of fun.

A Fun Job-Hopping Tale from Sewers to Moving Vans!

Under a different hand, it would have been all too easy for The Job Pirate to have become another autobiographical survey of poor career moves and an endless succession of jobs - but then, we're not talking about the usual approach with Brandon Christopher; which is why his book is being recommended here as an inviting, lively read for any who have an interest in a humor-spiced memoir chronicling good and bad job experiences alike.

Christopher's intention is to shock and amaze with the unexpected, and this is evident from the very first sentence of his introduction (which should serve as adequate warning to prospective employers).

And while this won't delight the job seeker who has unwittingly come upon The Job Pirate in hopes of perhaps gaining some employment-fostering tips during the process of re-careering, there are plenty of books on the market which better serve this purpose - and none with the whimsical delivery of of The Job Pirate.

After all - the full title gives away this book's focus (The Job Pirate: An Entertaining Tale of My Job-Hopping Journey in America), so there should be no cause for confusion or dashed expectations - and plenty of appropriate anticipation of a fun journey.

This is no singular path, either: Christopher's jobs range from porn magazines and moving vans to sewers, and his West Coast journeys make for particularly fun reflections for any who reside on the 'left bank' of the country.

Be prepared to laugh. Be prepared to recognize that boring jobs become enlightening and fun only under Christopher's hand. And be prepared to be delighted; for in the vast world of career and job experience books, The Job Pirate doesn't just stands out: it shines.

Surprisingly fun and worth the read

This book was surprisingly fun. On the face of it, “The Job Pirate” is worth a read just for being a few hundred pages of laugh-out-loud story telling. It reminds you of the kind of stuff that has you cracking up over beers with that crazy buddy who does stuff you’d never do. Some of the stories were better/crazier than others, but overall they were really entertaining. Lots of crude, eyebrow-raising LOL moments.

There’s no doubt that Brandon Christopher has experienced a lot; from florist, to limo-driver, to mortuary driver, to porn writer, he’s been there and done that, and done it with the muckraking zeal of an undercover warzone journalist. And as enjoyable as that is in and of itself, the book is also more than just wild situations and toilet humor. Peppered among the dozens of irreverent workplace misadventures in “The Job Pirate” is a fair bit of relatable insight into the current state of affairs for many struggling young adults. A lot of us have had to struggle to make ends meet, and this book is sort of the extreme of that. Through a piecemeal diary of failures and successes, of blunders and dumps-on-luxury-cars, there are actually - if you can believe it - a few interesting lessons among the whole bunch of laughs.

Throughout the book, I felt like I got a refreshingly transparent view of Christopher as a colleague, a son, a sibling, a friend, and an a**hole. Sometimes I loved him and sometimes I hated him, but almost the whole time I was entertained by him.

Thanks for sharing your dirt, Brandon. Looking forward to the sequel.
