About the Author
Bernard Gramlich is the creator of the S.O.A.P. Framework and the founder of Dr. Gram Consulting. After being a serial entrepreneur for over 35 years, he now helps businesses enhance their problem solving skills while streamlining their processes so they can become more efficient and productive without suffering through lost sales, bad employees, and lackluster profits like he experienced in the beginning of his entrepreneurial ventures. His love for business started at the ripe age of 10 when he took over his mother’s Amway account and grew it into diamond status. Since then, he has been hooked on learning and growing more efficient businesses. Those early business failures and successes have paved the way for his now thriving consulting business. Dr. Gramlich has owned or co-owned 12 businesses throughout his career and each one has taught him valuable lessons of growth he was able to apply to each new venture. Now, he dedicates his time to teaching managers, business owners and entrepreneurs his coveted techniques for business success through his website, www.drgramconsulting.com. A great system for anyone running a small to medium size business that would like to become more productive and profitable

S.O.A.P. was an interesting way to look at how to find solutions for problems in ones business. My favorite acronym in the book however, was H.E.R.D. Dr. Gramlich explains that "H.E.R.D. Stands for Hours, Emotions, Relationships, and Dollars. I liked this acronym because I found myself immediately looking at how it applied to my business today. In my business I constantly focus on the relationships, emotions, dollars, but struggle on the immense amount of hours I put into my business. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, and feel blessed that I can get paid to do what I am passionate about, but it can be exhausting too. H.E.R.D. helped me understand that I needed to become more efficient.
After learning about the "Ten Things To Do List" and the "3 Projects List" that Gramlich explains in the book I think I found a simpler way to become more productive. I am going to take Dr. Gramlich's challenge and implement it into my business for the next 5 weeks. I am excited to see the results of implementing it.
My favorite quote in the book was in the very beginning when Dr. Gramlich states that "Something can and will go wrong everyday, and what is going to define you as a true entrepreneur is how quickly you get it solved and move on to the important parts of the business, like growing it and providing great services."

Getting to the Root of The Problem

It takes a good map to keep you focused on your destination and out of the ditches and it takes a good plan to keep you focused on your business and out of the problems that can drag you down. Following Dr Gramlich's S.O.A.P. Framwork formula and applying it to your business problem (or pain as he calls it), keeps everything up-front and visable. It's all about asking the right questions (Subjective), taking an honest look (Objective), Making a decision (Assessment), and creating a Plan! Dr. Gramlich also shares his successes in using the S.O.A.P. Framework formula with his own clients. This book is a problem solver worth reading!
