all they had to decide on was if they liked it or not

An old co-worker of mine, who sold Internet advertising, once quipped that he wished he sold chairs, since everybody knew what a chair was; all they had to decide on was if they liked it or not. Service-oriented businesses are different in that value is not observed through a physical product. It is difficult to cold call somebody about your consulting service, and advertising early on is like throwing darts. Networking becomes a primary tool; after all, there's a reason why a first round of funding is called a Friends and Family round. Often your first business transactions are from pre-existing relationships.
Ellwood sets out to explain the finer points of networking, and hits on the key point of building trusting relationships, and providing reciprocal value. Taylor provides ideas on networking that can have an impact on your networking results. Because networking is both an art and a science, you need to read and understand many perspectives on the subject and Taylor provides ideas from his point of view that you can put into practice immediately and that I believe will help you be more successful. And, as I have known Taylor for a number of years, I can tell you that he doesn't just write about the theory of networking - he gets out there and does it. He is often one of the most active members of his leads groups and he definitely focuses on how he can help his fellow members in his daily activities.
