Make this book your first tool in your search for a QA Testing job

Land a job. . .is an excellent, probably indispensable, tool for the fledgling tester. As Jason Bay mentions in the book, there are so many scam sites out there offering fabulous wages, glamor and fun in return for you spending money on what ends up being worthless advice. You are far better off spending a couple of dollars on this book, which will take you all the way through the process of becoming a QA Tester.

Bay systematically breaks down every step of the process. After finishing his book, you will have the tools to land a good QA job, and you will know what to expect out there. This book provides you with dozens of tips and strategies for landing that first job in the QA business.

I have been in the QA business over 20 years, and read and seen dozens of books and sites that do not come close to providing the valuable, useful, and truthful information you find in this compact but excellent guide. I hope Bay writes a follow up book something along the lines of "You've landed that QA job. Now become the best possible tester you can be." If he can provide the same kind of insight to mastering the job that he provides for landing it, it will be a hit. If you are looking for work as a tester, quit beating your head against the wall, and buy this book.

Real easy read and great starting point

I personally spoke to Matt about a month ago here in San Antonio about his book and got really excited about what he had accomplished. After having the opportunity to read his book, I would say that he is spot. His laser focused layout of where to start are points that most of the military personnel should start or go back to their existing profiles and make critical adjustments.

I speak to a lot of transitioning service members and I will definitely be passing along the quick and user friendly guide.

About the Author
A bestselling Science Fiction/Fantasy author and speaker, Chris Kennedy is a former naval aviator with over 3,000 hours flying attack and reconnaissance aircraft and an elementary school principal. Called "fantastic" and "a great speaker," he has coached hundreds of beginning authors and budding novelists on how to self-publish their stories at a variety of conferences, conventions and writing guild presentations.
 
Chris is a member of SFWA and the SCBWI. His full-length novels on Amazon include the "Occupied Seattle" military fiction duology, the "Theogony" and "Codex Regius" science fiction trilogies and the "War for Dominance" fantasy trilogy. Next great novel?--You can do it; and this book will help.

Just finished Chris Kennedy’s first non-fiction work, Self-Publishing for Profit, and in short, it is fantastic. Mr. Kennedy walks the reader/aspiring author from the idea phase through drafting, publishing and marketing their work. He provides countless examples from his own personal life of publishing seven books in the past two years without any previous experience.

His writing style is warm and open, like getting advice from a friend. His advice on style is common sense, but also incredibly insightful to aspiring writers. He goes into great detail explaining the imperative of building a “brand”, connecting with readers, honing your craft, and maintaining momentum. One walks away with the realization that writing entails a lot more than they understood, but that with a plan and Chris’ sage advice they can do it.

In have read all of Mr. Kennedy’s books, and strongly recommend them, but this one gives the reader deeper insight into Chris as a person, his work ethic, and his interests in giving others a voice. If you like the worlds he creates, I’m pretty sure you’ll like him too.

Kennedy and I shared a writing panel together earlier this month and I purchased this book from him. As an author with four books and looking to up my game, I found a lot of great tips in here. Guides like these are useful, not just to tell writers what they are doing wrong, but confirm what they're doing right. In this case, I'd say 60% of the content confirmed my choices, while 40% offered suggestions on how to either rethink my strategy or ideas entirely new to me. That equals 100% appreciated.

Having finished it, this book will now go on my desk with my dictionaries, writing guides, and books of inspiration. At 140 pages, Kennedy covers a LOT and he covers it at what I'd call a drive-by point of view. That means that he'll tell you best blogging options (Wordpress in his opinion, and I agree) and he'll help you get started, but he won't and really can't tell you everything you need to know about Wordpress. This isn't "that" book. Once you get there, expect to use Google searches or a Dummies book to help dig in deep, But the book still did its job because it got you to the right place.

If you're like me, because it covers SO MUCH in a short span, you'll get to the end feeling a little overwhelmed. That's the other reason I'm keeping it handy. I except to reread certain sections as I need them (the front TOC breaks everything down quite nicely). Personally, I'm looking at audio book options, and this guide has already made me aware of options I didn't know about.

The book also offers a good balance of "you can do it" with "you have to do the hard work", something anyone new to this needs to be told up front. Kennedy does a great job of explaining what it takes to succeed and why it might not be a choice for everyone.

Bottom line--Highly recommended whether you're already an author or thinking of taking the plunge.

I just finished reading Self-Publishing for Profit and figured that I had to write a review for such a great book. The trouble is, a bunch of people have already written outstanding reviews. But even though these reviewers are better writers than I am, I doubt that they could appreciate or value this book more than I do.

I find it difficult to write a comprehensive review that would take less than the 150 page length of the book, so I will limit my comments to just three areas. First, it's a How-to book for the beginner and for the experienced writer. Second, it's a motivational book, and if you are a writer, you can always use some motivation. Finally, it is a financial – or perhaps I should call it a pot-of-gold book for those who follow its clearly spelled out advice.

That's it; order it before you start doing something else.

Speaking frankly

The great thing about "Ten Minutes to the Speech" is that you probably could read it cover to cover in the ten minutes before you have to give a speech; and it'd probably make your presentation ten times better than it would've been otherwise.

This is an ideal book for anyone who has to speak publicly, and would be particularly effective for those who are intimidated by the prospect. Van Petten's style is engaging and conversational, packing a multitude of great examples into a concise package. His tips for improving your speech are pragmatic and common-sensical, and he's particularly good about reminding you of the "abstract" qualities that affect the reception of a speech, such as your posture, facial expression, delivery, etc. As anyone who's given a speech knows, it's not just about what words you pick! Even veteran public speakers will probably be able to pick up a few tips from this brief but comprehensive how-to.

In short, this is an effective manual for the beginning and accomplished public speaker alike. It's quick, handy and helpful, and like a great speech itself, there's not a wasted word in it.

This is a terrific book, short but more than sweet. It is filled with many ways to make public speaking easier, and is written in a style that is easy to read, and easier to remember. If you have to get up in front of 5 people or 5,000, this is a book that belongs in your library.
