From the Author
We want to honor the many, many friends and colleagues who have been so supportive of our challenging the status quo over the years and who enthusiastically encouraged us to lay out those challenges and create the blueprint for change that resulted in the creation of this book.

We also want to thank all of our clients for letting us tell their stories (even though we changed many of their names to protect confidentiality). We hope that eventually more of them will let their identities be known; to inspire others to learn from their journeys.

Additionally, we want to acknowledge those who have gone before us for their persistence in challenging the stuckness we describe in the first section of this book through their own work -- for not being satisfied with "business as usual" -- especially when it isn't working.

Finally, we want to acknowledge each other. We have been on parallel paths challenging the status quo for decades, passionate about making a difference for workplace culture and employee wellbeing. It has been invigorating and an absolute joy for us to create this unique work together. As one enlightened leader put it, he wants his employees to view their time at work not as a job or even a career, but as a calling. This book, from beginning to end, has for us felt like a calling -- a labor of love. We sincerely hope you feel the same way about it and that it makes it easier for you to facilitate moving organizational and employee wellbeing more quickly and effectively into the 21st century.

From the Inside Flap
"I had an 'aha!' moment reading this book.  Ward and Robison make the fuzzy concept of 'healthy work culture' crystal clear, and give you specific, science-based steps to take.  Anyone who wants a truly great work environment will find this a terrific guide."

I highly recommend this book
By shanadair
I had an “aha!” moment reading this book. As a corporate wellness program manager, I search for just the right programs and incentives to motivate people to engage in healthy behaviors….but I often end up frustrated with low participation or complaints. The authors explain that although we can reward or punish people for participating in wellness, we can’t “make” them actually change their thinking to be self-motivated. The authors ultimately suggest that companies focus less on incentive-based wellness programs and instead on creating a workplace culture that stresses overall employee wellbeing, and the book provides steps for how to make that happen. If you are struggling with your employee wellness program or low morale at this office, I highly recommend this book.

A must-read for anyone concerned with workplace culture!
By Jennifer Cronin
Wow! I learned so much about what businesses need to focus on when it comes to organizational development and health promotion. Rosie and Jon do an incredible job of explaining what companies are doing wrong and how to fix their flawed thinking and approaches. Any organization, regardless of the current state of its workplace culture, can benefit from following Rosie and Jon's "7 Points of Transformation." I definitely will be recommending this book to HR, wellness, and benefits professionals, as well as business owners.

This is a practical, actionable guide to, well, to building a thriving workplace culture, just like it says. And not only is it a practical guide, it gets into the whys and the statistics and truly arms you -- whoever you are in your organization -- to help create that change. Everyone needs to read this. The world will be a better place when this message gets through.
