I'd never been really active on LinkedIn as I thought I didn't have the time BUT it actually doesn't have to be time-consuming!

As an entrepreneur I am always after tips for finding new prospects and how to optimize my use of networking tools.
I have been using LinkedIn for over 7 years to manage my contacts and eventually find new customers but I had not been very successful so far in the later one.

By following the ideas from this book and becoming more active on LinkedIn, I have doubled my network within a couple of weeks and I now receive an average of 10 contact requests a week from very targeted prospects who convert really well into customers!

For me it has worked really well to share events for my markets (great tip since it's not complicated to implement). I also discovered the buffer app so that I can queue up a bunch of content and the schedule posting throughout the day or night (while I'm sleeping).

I highly recommend the book Solution Focused Mentoring by Ellen Dejong. Written in an easy to read, cookbook like style, this book guides your Solution Focused interaction with your mentee in a really well organized and practical manner. It gives very easy to apply examples, such as how to ask questions in a Solution Focused way, how to keep the mentee's goal as a priority, and how to keep your mentor attitude Solution Focused.
This book works for me, just like my favorite cooking books, as a quick guide to refresh my memory between mentoring meetings. I can open it and find the "recipe" I need instead of having to browse through hundreds of pages in other Solution Focused therapy or mentoring books.

There are so many solution-focused literature. At first I thought this book would be another one. I mean, I expected this book could be normal, repeating, and boring.

However, this book was quite different actually. The creative and humorous author compared solution focused mentoring to the procedure in cooking a delicious food, and described the procedure as briefly as possible.

If you only read one book, make Too Big To Rescue the one that helps save your Family, Finances, Investments, & Businesses.

Peter Burke is one of the foremost experts on global economics and how they impact local economies, your family’s future, your investments, and your businesses. This book, written a year ago now, accurately predicts many economic impacts and the root causes we saw during 2015. Additionally, it has more information about what is coming next.

Peter and I are colleagues, and I want to share that for sake of full disclosure. However, everything I am writing in this review can be verified simply by reading Peter's book.

This book is extremely well written, foretelling, and early impacts are confirmable during 2015. Peter is from Northern Ireland but spent time in Australia, England, Peru and Spain. Some of his writing reflects different grammar than people from the United States are accustomed to reading. However, it is all a brilliant masterpiece at deciphering what is happening with the worldwide economy and what we can do about it.

Now onto the meat of the book and lack thereof with regards to the economic outlook. Peter discusses much about quantitative easing and the effects on our economy. For far too long, the Fed has tried to stop allowing the real economy to thrive by first allowing it to falter; instead it used quantitative easing to create "The Great Recession." Funny how it is referred to as a recession when real economists know better. Peter knows it is anything but and knows the consequences. He has lined them out in the book and it foretells elaborately, yet simply written, what it means to you.

Peter correctly identifies reasons why the Fed left interest rates untouched for too long, which is to stop deflation from happening on a grand scale. Imagine that your home’s mortgage is $300,000 but your home is only worth $150,000; what will you do? Debt becomes a huge negative in a deflationary economy, so Peter explains all of the steps that you, a person living in the upcoming times, can deal with these long-term corrections. If you’re an investor, you will want to take special note. And business owners/executives need to really consider what your company’s strategy will look like to avoid being a casualty and being swallowed up by bigger companies or simply going bankrupt - remember with deflation, you still owe the same amount on your factory, your wages will remain similar, but your production may only yield had the revenue it once did. As a business strategy expert, I can tell you that you should look at debt differently, and consider how everything will impact your company.

Peter also makes great strides in creating awareness with the Chinese "Shadow Banking System." The Chinese economy is or soon will be the most important globally. We need to watch China's problems, as those problems could lead to a global financial meltdown. there are really too many “triggers” that could cause a global financial/economic meltdown. Do not expect the governments to bail this out as usual, because the scale may make the prior bailouts seem minuscule in nature to what is needed. This may bankrupt entire governments or devalue currency in micro areas against a strong U.S. Dollar. But a strong U.S. Dollar isn’t all it’s cracked up to be - read the book to discover why.

Peter accurately predicts what we saw in Europe during 2015. From personal communication with Peter, I can tell you that he is really dialed in on everything from currency and politics to banking and economies - and what the future strategies should be to limit harm from the impending economic collapse. His understanding of Europe greatly surpasses anything I have ever read before. With over 600 hard copies of books in my reading library and another 1,000+ in electronic format, I can tell you this is the one book that will help you understand why the events we are seeing globally are happening. I simply wasn’t aware of many of the problems, until Peter pointed them out in this book.

The United States has its own problems. It is heavily interweaving its economic output throughout the world with once U.S. owned companies like Apple doing a majority of its sales and nearly all of its production overseas. Whether you are an executive, board member, politician, investor, or a citizen bracing for the collapse that is coming, Peter has outlined what you can do to limit the impacts to yourself, your investments, and your business. Don’t consider it scare tactics, as it is the real situation our governments have put us in. We need to consider solutions for our long-term interests. The time to act is now.

Mr Burke certainly has a powerful case. The events happening now in finance and politics all around the world are proving that his thesis is correct and we are in serious trouble. He is careful not to draw too many conclusions as to how all the chips may fall. Certainly the future will be different from the past. The old order can not survive. I wished he would have discussed more at the end for individual survival.
He seems to focus on advising business clients as to what to do which is really somewhat common sense.

I've read a lot of self help, motivational, and success books. I'm going to be honest, I really like those books. However, The Six Force-Multiplying Insights was something completely different from anything else I had read before. There is absolutely no cliched advice in this book whatsoever. I would warn that some readers might be highly skeptical of the advice in the book. For example there is a lot of information on Grace and Glory (the #1st and #6th insight) which is something that I've always been interested in. The chapter on economics was quite interesting and the advice on how you play a part in the economy. Overall I would recommend this book to those who are ambitious and interested in some unique ideas on how to achieve success.

One of the better self help book out there!

I have to say, I am more than impressed with this book, as it opened my eyes on how to grow my success. All to often, we try and fail, then never try again because we failed. This leads us into a never ending cycle, where we work hard at something, but never seem to make it "work".
Then, there are people who make every single idea work...people like Oprah Winfrey, and Bill Gates.

This book teaches you about the six qualities that the most successful people possess:

Grace
Focused Power
Wisdom & acquiring expertise
Continuous Development in conditions of success
Inner Peace
Economics

Each of these qualities is discussed and dissected, so that we can see how things like our attitude, approach, and interactions with other people, can make us or break us. By changing how we grow personally, we can change how we grow economically.

The insights and resources in this book are great, and I think that anyone that likes self-help book, or wants to learn more about how they can change the way things work, in their own lives, should get this book.

In really enjoyed reading this book. What caught my eye was the reference to the book, Secrets. I accidentally ran into The Secret
when I was substitute teaching and it was on the teacher's desk. I watched the dvd on my lunch hour and it set my thinking to "hmmmm?" I bought the book and read it from cover to cover about believing in the power that everyone has as long as you wrap yourself and keep up and turn to positive energy and believe that all good things will come to you. I do agree that this helps, but I always felt something was still missing. Then, I would blame that somewhat negative thought for keeping the wonderful positive things to come to me--self doubt.

This book, I do feel, fills in those questions of but how? There must be more to how this works! Now that I got the main scope of this book, I am going back to re-read it and carefully apply the six principles to me and my life combined with the lessons of The Secret. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Full of Counter-Cultural Wisdom from Bygone Days

Are you acquainted with Mrs. Sharon White? You really must meet her. She writes one of the most lovely, delightfully old-fashioned, inspiring homemaking blogs I've read .The Legacy of Home is one of the few blogs that I have read through as many old posts as I can. I won't say I've read all of it, but a few years ago, I read avidly until I had read nearly all of it. In fact, I spent a nice half an hour just the other evening doing it again.

Why? Godly homemaking advice from a wife and mother who is committed to God, her husband, her children, and her home is rare. Mrs. White has lived through really tough times financially. She shares an abundance of wisdom gathered from years of experience. She's real.

A few years ago, Mrs. White began putting her wisdom into books. I've had the privilege of reviewing two of her books, Mother's Faith—Essays, Lamentations, and Encouragement from a Christian Mother of Waywards and Living on His Income—Remembrances and Advice for the Christian Housewife.

Economy for the Christian Home—A 12 Week Challenge for Wives to Increase Charitable Giving is a testimony to her love of God and love of people. The challenge is to live in a frugal, thrifty way in order to have resources to give to others in need. Pennies and dollars add up. Yes, pennies. She doesn't discount pennies in the effort to save to give. She explains how to help your child save, give and serve, too.

Yankee ingenuity and thrift are encouraged to help free up hard earned dollars for giving. There is an encouraging quote, a devotion, a challenge, and a homework assignment for each week. She addresses other ways to give such as making things for others and taking meals to those in need. She also includes forms to keep track of your expenditures from your household account.

Having spent the last several years in reduced circumstances, as Mrs. White would say, I find it hard to have enough left over to give beyond our tithes very much. Mrs. White has challenged me to find ways to give by saving small amounts at a time as well as doing for others.

This is a slim volume, just 110 pages, but it is full counter-cultural wisdom from bygone days.

A Challenging 12-Week Study

I'll be honest---giving is low on my priority list when it comes to spending our earnings. With our large family, I always feel there's some need that could be met here at home and I tend to meet a whole lot of non-essentials before I ever think about giving to those less fortunate. God has called Christians to a life of generosity though, and I know this is an area I need to focus on.

In Economy for the Christian Home, Mrs. White gives practical help and encouragement on budgeting out money to be given to those in need---easy steps that even those with the smallest of budgets can stick to. One thing I'm really excited about starting up is the Charity Box. This idea will help our family be intentional about setting aside money so we're prepared when the Lord leads us to share it.

I encourage you to grab a copy of Economy for the Christian Home and be challenged to care for the poor. This excellent resource would also be great for a group study.

Amazing book!

A refreshing way to study and help to develop healthy money/spiritual habits for you and your family. I am doing self study and this is helping me to have a better view and take on money, family, savings, and giving. I'm applying some of these principals now. This is a easy read and I feel well connected to it as homemaker myself with 5 children (retired employee after 25 years). This would work well for any woman in any season of your life. Get the book you won't regret it.

Turn your MBA toolkit into a weapons system

Masters degrees in Business Administration (MBA) are not only being taught in elite schools, but in nearly every university, college, and diploma mill that can find some way to get accreditation. Most of the programs teach their students similar concepts in the core subjects of Financial and Management Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Operations, Organizational Behavior, Information Systems, Marketing and Corporate Strategy. If everyone has the same tools and book of tactics, including how to differentiate your company and create a competitive advantage, how can you actually compete and win in the real world? Worse, these kinds of programs train these managers to work, think, and fit in to the large companies that hire MBAs by the campusfull. That is why this book refers to MBA Clones and provides an approach that takes a different tack than standard MBA thinking would see.

It isn't that what you learn as an MBA isn't valuable, it's that learning the core of a business program provides you with only a basic toolset. You still need to learn to apply them. However, if you apply them like everyone else (the problem with `best practices') you aren't creating a compelling advantage. The best business folks are artists and use their toolsets in powerfully creative ways to win in the marketplace.

Dan Herman is a Ph.D. and CEO (and co-owner) of Competitive Advantages Ltd. Through which he and his team serve companies all around the world. Their goal is to help their clients identify growth opportunities and creating `unfair' competitive advantages. Along with this Advantagizing they help create powerful and compelling brands and profitable business models.

In part 1 of this book provides a look at what Herman's views on some common myths of Competitive Advantage (that you have to be better than your competitors, that you have to endear yourself to as many customers as possible, and that your competitive edge is to be found on a parameter that is important in your business category. He then provides a secret to Differentiation and uses examples from Virgin, Google, Starbucks and others to show you what he is after.

Part 2 explains their O-Scan (opportunity scan) method. It is about identifying insights about customers and what they are GOING to want (rather than what they are demanding today). You also learn to use a customers 15 stage consumption process to find points of pain and opportunity, to provide more consumer benefits, and seeing the hidden rules your competitors are using to win.

Part 3 is provides Herman's views of Branding. First you have to understand the consumer's mind. I found this discussion of how the consumer experiences things, what they are trying to do, and how they for their beliefs to be quite interesting. Herman also rejects the idea that Branding creates brands. He says that it is the real success factors that you have identified previously that will provide substance and power to your brand. He provides the ABCDE of Brand Success: Attribution of benefit, Believability, Craving, Differentiation, and Ease of acting upon their desire.

For Herman, brands are more about expectations, anticipations, and dreams that take them out of their hum-drum reality. It is about adventure, temptations, testing limits, nostalgia, and much more. The goal is to make your marketing electrifying to your customers. He also provides interesting chapters on developing marketing hits and how you can drive your consumers crazy about your brand.

Is all this absolutely original and unique? Look, I have an MBA from the University of Michigan Business School and what he says here is consistent with what I learned there. The expectation I had upon graduation was to use what I learned creatively. What Herman does is help those interested in turning the toolkit you were given into a weapons system. And I think that is very worthwhile.

The real deal

This book, which I was privileged to read as a review copy of the publisher, contains a totally new approach to marketing, one that is not taught in business schools, one that is geared to today's changed consumer environment. For example, to read the author's description of the Joe Boxer phenomenon is for old fogies like me to have a lightbulb on the culture suddenly turn on.

The book is full of extraordinary insights. A true page-turner, I highly recommend it.

A Fresh Look at Short-Term Thinking

Long-term strategies have been replaced by ones that adapt and change as opportunities are identified.

"Launch and forget" brands today, such as Marboro, are rare. They have been replaced by visual identities and advertising styles that change rapidly. To succeed over the long-term managements must succeed in the short-term time after time.

Dan Herman, citing observations from Copernicus Marketing Consulting, argues brands are becoming like commodities. Consumers can no longer differentiate them from sugar, corn or cement. They are created by marketers who employ the same data, the same focus groups and data analysis. The marketers have become indistinguishable.

In this new environment, Herman observes:

1. Porter, Kotler, Aaker and Ries and their rules are obsolete.
2. Marketers need to understand nature's rules. They need to be able to devise alternatives paths to the same goals.
3. Theoretical concepts are tools for thinking about reality. They are not reality itself.

If you are a seasoned marketer, this book is different from another you have read. Herman's fresh thinking about competitive advantage, marketing, customer segmentation, differentiation and branding will challenge your thinking. It is worth every penny of its cover price.

About the Author
David Oakley is the founder and creative director of BooneOakley. He built the agency by helping brands tell their stories in ways that get noticed, talked about and shared. David has won most every top creative award in the ad business, but he is most proud of his 1973 Little League MVP. He lives in Charlotte.

Laughed until I cried and was halfway through the book ...

Laughed until I cried and was halfway through the book in two hours. Honest and straightforward story telling that is hard to find nowadays.

Hilarious! I couldn't put the book down!

I am normally a slow reader and it takes me weeks or months to get through a book, if I even finish it at all.
I picked up the book at noon Sunday and couldn't put it down until I finished it that evening. I literally LOL-ed so many times that I think my wife has whiplash from hearing me cackle every few minutes! As sappy as this sounds, I feel like I got to know David a bit better by reading these stories of his life.

David: I am glad you kept up writing and am so proud of you getting this published. If a print-on-demand book could sell out, this will.
oh, and I fell on my head twice taking an upside down picture -- but it was worth it!

I expected this book to be a well-written collection from a great storyteller. He’s an ad guy, after all, and from what I hear, quite successful. I was not disappointed. The author’s crazy internal dialogue, which he shares throughout the book, is unbelievably honest and laugh-out-loud funny. Or maybe the unbelievable part is that he’s willing to admit it. Either way, it’s a great read. I recommend this book to everyone, whether they are in the ad business or not.
