Then I read the book. I studied my answers intently, as I went through the book question by question. The knowledge I gained by reading this book was inspirational. This list of questions and answers, helped me to realize some miss-conceptions that I have carried for years. It helped me to find new skills, and it honed skills that were in need of being polished; so I could better serve my customers.

This Book Will Help You Sell More!

Having been a successful salesperson for 30 plus years, I was eager to find out if I could learn anything new and of value in Bob’s book. And, the answer was yes! Bob has done a great job of distilling some of the best ideas and techniques to increase sales, by helping you establish value and overcome the dread objections that everyone in sales face.

Of course, the book’s cover could be more attractive and Bob would probably sell more copies if he improved it … but, that shouldn’t take away from the value that the contents offer you. Everyone should seriously consider adding this book to their library.

This volume contains a very selective military history of the United States that focuses on the Revolutionary War and the contributions of West Point graduates to subsequent wars, but with an emphasis on some of the lesser known persons and events of the past 250 years or so. It also touches upon many of the customs and traditions of the West Point experience. Many chapters include the stories of unsung or forgotten heroes and heroines. Men like John Stark, Daniel Morgan, Eleazer Derby Wood, Benjamin L.E. Bonneville, Oliver Otis Howard, Henry Ossian Flipper, Calvin Pearl Titus, Charles Young, Norman D. Cota, and Donald W. Holleder plus women like the Warner sisters, Laura Walker, and Emily Perez. One of the final chapters, however, deals with-in the kindest sense of the term-a few rogues of West Point like Edgar Allan Poe, James McNeil Whistler, Hugh S. Johnson, and The Mole.

About the Author
Julian Michael Olejniczak is a West Point graduate who retired as a lieutenant colonel of Infantry after a 23-year career that included duty with U.S. Army Special Forces and the Vietnamese Ranger Training Center during two tours in Vietnam; command of an Infantry company in South Korea and an Arctic light infantry battalion in the interior of Alaska; and instructor duty at West Point and the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth. Upon retirement, he earned a joint MBA and law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, practiced corporate law in Nashville, and then served as editor in chief of the West Point alumni magazines and associated publications for 21 years. This volume is based, in part, upon his writings under the pseudonym of J. Phoenix, Esquire, from January 2003 to April 2011 while at West Point.

In the author’s short pedigree, he is not given credit for being a historian. Nothing could be farther from the truth. He is a 1961 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a former Vice President in charge of the Publications Dept. of the Association of Graduates where he did extensive research on the Academy and its history and people.

This is a well-written book, an excellent, highly recommended read that would be better served were it known by the second half of the title “A Selective American Military History” because that is what it is.
It is a story of the contribution of several less well-known graduates to our various wars over the years, interspersed with vignettes of the lives they led, e.g. Benjamin Bonneville, ‘1815, after whom the famous salt flats – used for automobile speed trials – in Utah were named.
Then there is George Horatio Derby, a.k.a. John Phoenix,’1846 – whom the author has used as a ‘pen name’, “J. Phoenix, ESQ”.

Henry O. Flipper, West Point’s first Negro graduate, is discussed, as is Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield – Schofield’s Definition of Discipline – and the Warner Sisters of Constitution Island.
Then there is Ducrot Pepys; and the foxhole on your front lawn.

True to the traits of a historian, the author covers, in chronological order, the wars that we, the United States, have been involved in from our Revolution on through Afghanistan, with frequent excursions along the way to touch on Armistice Day, the Unknown Soldier, the Great Depression, the Air Cadets, the Berlin Air Lift and the founding of the Air Force Academy and West Point itself, just to name a few.

In the process he visits the Libraries of West Point, its Monuments and Memorials and since West Point is so close to New York City, the City itself – featuring Mama Leone’s Restaurant, a famous NY eatery well known to Cadets of the day, including the author and reviewer, a location now, sadly, long out of existence.

The final section of the work treats The Rogues of West Point; surely one must realize that an institution with so much intrinsic discipline needs some relief, an outlet for its denizens.
The author begins with the Eggnog Riot of 1826, continues with a treatise on Edgar Allen Poe, then onto James McNeill Whistler, MacArthur and the Reveille Cannon, and “The Mole”.

The reviewer will leave it to the readers to peruse the various sections of an EXCELLENT – short – very well done unique history of America’s Military and its Military Academy.

They are brief, concise and well written. Outstanding book to read for many occasions such as a long flight, summer vacation or some light reading prior to retiring for the evening.

Good stuff for entrepreneurs - an introduction on how to start a new source of income

If you're an entrepreneur or have your sites set on becoming one, Private Label Selling is a good book to get you on your way. I was vaguely aware of Private Label products and how people made money selling these products but had absolutely no clue on how to go about it. The little that I did know paired private label products with affiliate marketing which seemed a tad complicated. So when I saw this book I thought: Hey, why not? I might learn something.

And learn something I did. This book is centered around the Fulfillment by Amazon system. Shows you the basics on how you can get products, have Amazon carry inventory and fulfill purchases. The book tells you how to look for products and how Amazon will help you market and promote. There are some good resources mentioned in the book as well.

Required reading for the entrepreneur that is in all of us.

Great read if interested in learning about private lable selling

This book definitely provides the basic information on how to get started selling private label products on Amazon. If you re looking to learn more about this, then this book is a great place to start the learning process. I like how the book breaks down the process from start to finish, in very managable steps. By the time you finish, you will definitely have a grasp of private label selling on amazon. What I am learning is that this is a great way to make money and by following a simple system, as outlined in this book, you don't need a ton of experience to get started in private lable selling. I am definitely going to start looking for my own physical product to start selling.

What a waste of time and money. There are maybe 2 paragraphs related to "private label" selling, the rest is poorly written fluff straight from the Amazon Seller help pages.

If you want to learn how to sell worthless information for $3, however, this book serves as an excellent guide.

Para ensinar economia, falamos de coisas como o colapso da civilização que habitava a Ilha da Páscoa, a fabricação de vinho francês a partir do suco de laranja, e as casas com janelas cobertas por tijolos. Não parece economia? Apenas por enquanto.

Não falaremos sobre as particularidades das reformas discutidas na conjuntura, o que importa para nós é a lógica econômica por trás de cada assunto. Por exemplo, se queremos saber sobre as políticas públicas adequadas para a previdência, vamos antes entender o problema das cigarras e das formigas. Isso, no entanto, não significa que trataremos desses temas de maneira abstrata. Para discutir estas questões, é necessário atentar para a realidade, e o livro está recheado de dados reais e de histórias concretas como a de um banqueiro que ganhou o Prêmio Nobel da Paz. A relevância do livro está em diluir conceitos de falhas de mercado dentro de exemplos cotidianos, tornando a compreensão mais simples. Um outro benefício do livro é justamente o de introduzir no pensamento do leitor o cálculo racional dos custos e benefícios de determinadas políticas, desfazendo o senso comum e os achismos que, em geral, permeiam esses debates. E esse aprendizado, naturalmente, pode ser estendido para outras questões fora do texto. Ademais, a leitura é muito fluida e não requer conhecimento instrumental de economia.

About the Author
My name is Oleg Malikov; originally from a now non-existent country called the Soviet Union, now known as the Russian Federation. In 2000 I came to the US for my master's studies and never left. In 2012 I became a proud US citizen. I currently reside in Houston, TX and have been here since late 2002. While in Russia I got a bachelor degree in intercultural studies and translation (English and Spanish) from LUNN (Linguistic University of Nizhni Novgorod), and in the US I obtained an MBA from LSU (Louisiana State University). I like to read, write, spend time outdoors and lead an active lifestyle. My wife, Narmina, and I just had a beautiful daughter named Sofia, who is now a full-time manager of our lives. I am an author of two books - "Surfing Your Way Through Stock Market" and "Clash of Cultures: Russia vs USA or Understanding Russians Inside Out". The first one describes my way of investing and offers a practical guide for an average investor. The book is specific and to the point - I am not a fan of generalities and abstract notions. You will find everything from how to finance your investing activities, to selection of stocks for your portfolio and to managing your portfolio holdings the intelligent way. The second one is about Russia, and how it is similar and different from the West. I have always been fascinated with various cultures and how they compare and contrast with each other. Oleg Malikov has penned a must read for stock investors. I always wanted to learn about stock market and all the different strategies around it but unfortunately I got always discouraged by people's bad experiences, market crashes and (most of all) "fear to invest".

All of this before reading Malikov book! I truly loved this book, not only because it is able to explain difficult concepts in a very easy way, but also because it is inspiring. Malikov makes you realize that being successful in stock market is not difficult as long as you have the necessary knowledge.

I would definitely recommend this book to anybody (like me) who wants to learn about stock market, doesn't know where to start from and wants to learn in the quickest and easy way. Start with this book to get a firm footing in the stock market.

What an outstanding and information-packed book. Oleg Malikov has really hit a home run out of the park with this book. I am new to investing and was looking for a guide that could not only explain the basics of investing, but also give me techniques and ideas to put me on the right path to successful investing. It has so much information, but at the same time, it's not complicated or difficult to understand. The author does a great job of explaining the complexities of stock investing in very simple layman's terms. If you are new to investing like I am, or you are looking for some type of definitive guide that can improve your investment strategies and returns, then I highly recommend you get this book. I think this was a great read!

I'm a newbie in investments, and this book helped me to get a clear picture of investing path. The book is inspiring and easy to read. The impetus for this book began as a quest for an answer to a problem that quite literally had shaken us to our core. We have dedicated our careers to helping companies win through improved customer loyalty. Throughout our careers, however, we consistently found that most of the things we were told about loyalty were wrong.

With each new set of myths we uncovered, we sought to set the record straight. We co-authored several books (Loyalty Myths, Return on Quality, The Customer Delight Principle, and Why Loyalty Matters) and award-winning papers so that the business community could gain from our insight and avoid the pitfalls we found.

But there was one overwhelming problem that we could not explain away. The measures we use to gauge customers' perceptions of their experience (e.g., satisfaction and Net Promoter Score) are so weakly correlated to customers' share of category spending with the brands that they use that the metrics are managerially irrelevant.

This problem challenged everything we believed about customer satisfaction and loyalty. Specifically, we expect more satisfied and loyal customers to devote more of their spending to a brand. That expectation is the primary reason that efforts to improve satisfaction and loyalty are supposed to be good business decisions.

The truth was horribly bad. On average, customers' satisfaction (or Net Promoter Score) levels explain around 1 percent of the variation in customers' share of category spending. No good manager knowingly makes decisions about how to allocate a company's scarce resources based on a 1 percent model fit.

The reality, however, is that we have in effect been doing this every time we ask managers to focus on improving the customer experience to improve business outcomes. Sadly, the purportedly better-fitting models presented to managers to justify these efforts are almost always based on very bad statistics.

The result has been that businesses seldom see meaningful returns on their efforts to improve the customer experience. Not surprisingly, this has caused managers to question using these metrics to guide their businesses.

Given the seriousness of the problem, we were compelled to see if there was a better way. We began an intensive investigation to uncover why satisfaction and other commonly used metrics do not link to customers' share of spending.

The result of this investigation was the discovery of the Wallet Allocation Rule, a simple formula that managers could use to determine the share of wallet that customers allocated to their brands.

The Wallet Allocation Rule was introduced in the Harvard Business Review and received the Next Gen Disruptive Innovation Award. It has been subjected to rigorous scientific investigations. In addition, many of the strategies and tactics outlined in this book were introduced in the MIT Sloan Management Review.

Our goal in writing this book is to make businesses' efforts to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty pay dividends by giving managers a tool that we have proven works. We believe strongly that companies that apply the Wallet Allocation Rule can distinguish themselves in the eyes of both their customers and their shareholders.

Customer satisfaction, Net Promoter Score (NPS), likelihood to recommend—today's businesses pour millions into metrics for tracking and analyzing these so-called leading indicators of business growth. But what if increases in these customer loyalty metrics do not translate into growth? An outside-the-box question, and precisely the one that the authors of The Wallet Allocation Rule sought to answer in their landmark research, originally published in the Harvard Business Review and the MIT Sloan Management Review. The results have already made waves in the business community. It turns out that not only is investing in customer satisfaction and NPS not enough, such investments frequently lead to negligible or even negative returns.

Satisfaction is useless if it fails to translate into better business performance. The Wallet Allocation Rule lays out the first systematic approach for linking to what really matters—share of wallet (i.e., the percentage of spending in a category that customers allocate to particular brands). Finally, a book that challenges business 'logic'

I feel like I've read countless of business books and articles that use the same jargon and business speak to sell the same underlying principles. What a refreshment it is to read authors that not only are challenging the status quo, but actually HAVE a solution for it. This book will challenge you to re-think your perspective on how consumers evaluate brands and what can can truly impact dollars being brought through the door and spent on your product. The best part is that they are so transparent in their solution - no hidden tricks or secret formulas. The truest test is that this is ACTIONABLE information, and its principles stretch beyond business into how you approach your own personal life, friends, and family. Definitely recommended for the creative thinker, double recommendation for those of us that find comfort in statistically validated problem solving. An exhaustive piece of research work with concrete, relate-able examples and clear writing - who could ask for more?

As a finance professional of more than ten years in the consumer goods market, I wish I had the opportunity to read a book with such an innovative approach, concrete examples, and convincing solutions as The Wallet Allocation Rule, all these years. It is refreshing and revolutionary with clear and practical applications. Along with progressive insights, the implementations are directed towards redefining the methods to assess customer loyalty. One of the most amazing aspects of this book is its language and how ideas are so comfortably conveyed to the reader. Although easy to read and to understand, it is at the same time thought provoking which would lead you to change your thinking and practices about measuring and management of customer satisfaction. The book is a highly informative source for all professionals, business owners, all those who practice the marketing profession, and MBA students. Brilliant!
